Choosing a Programme
Students should apply to the UCD Study Abroad Programme in the academic area where they will be taking most of their modules.
At UCD we call courses ‘modules’.  UCD uses the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).  Students can take up to six modules or 30 ECTS per semester at UCD.  The minimum semester load is 4 modules or 20 ECTS.  They can register for less than six modules with permission from their home university.  Study abroad students have access to the full range of undergraduate modules available at UCD (subject to capacity and timetabling).  Students can register for up to four modules in their subject area and up to two modules from other Programme areas.  They may also take all of their modules within their chosen subject area.

Project and study groups are designed to ensure that students are fully integrated into the UCD learning environment. Classes are typically 3 hours per week per module. Grading is a based on continuous assessment and final examination.

Students can find information on modules via UCD’s on-line course catalogue at http://www.ucd.ie/students/course_search.htm The module descriptor contains a brief description of the module; the learning outcomes; contact hours; assessment; module pre-requisites and when the module is offered.   If Partner Institutions require additional course information for the approval of courses and/or the transfer of credits, please contact the relevant Study Abroad Programme Manager directly.

Study abroad students will be pre-registered to modules before they arrive at UCD and they will have up to two weeks after the start of the teaching term to amend their module registration selection.

The module selection and registration process commences in August for Semester 1 (fall) students and in December for Semester 2 (spring) students.   Individual Study Abroad Programme Managers will be in direct communication with study abroad students in relation to their module selection and registration.
