What impact has your study abroad experience had on your life and studies?
Program Testimonials
Firstly, being able to living in a foreign country for a few months opens your eyes to another culture. I felt immersed in the daily lifestyle of a London student. I honestly wish that the LDA program was a year long...or a four year program. I left that program feeling more confident in my school work, and feeling like I can continue to do well in my studies going into senior year. I has further encouraged me to pursue a career in theatre, but it has really helped me learn how important it is to maintain one's mental and physical health. I have gained an greater appreciation for and a newfound love for classic works. It opened my eyes to looking at theatre more critically, and not just focusing on the acting in a production. I became more aware of how my body moves throughout the day, how I use my voice, and how I use my brain.

What impact has your study abroad experience had on your life and studies?
Program Testimonials
Going through this experience has been one of the most amazing times of my life. For the first time, I was able to strictly focus on myself as an actor and learn more about myself as a person. Over the past few months, I discovered my strengths, weaknesses, and have met some of the most amazing people I have ever met. Not only were my instructors kind, nurturting, and instructive, but I could not have asked for a better group of peers to explore the art of acting with. Everyone I worked with both inside and outside of the classroom were supportive and we became each other's biggest fans. I never knew that could be possible witha  group of actors. At the end of these three months I feel more comfortable in my skin and with my abilities that will carry over into any endeavor I pursue.

Program Testimonials
Study Abroad has truly changed my life for the better. I had the chance to discover things about myself that I didn't know were there. I developed a really great work ethic and desire to search deeper to find the motivation behind each character.
I also made a lot of new friends who I hope to stay close to for a very long time. They supported me when being away from home was hard, and they pushed me to work hard and to never give up.

What impact has your study abroad experience had on your life and studies?
Program Testimonials
It made me a citizen of the world: I was able to become well integrated with a host-country that I did not really know. I started to understand a culture that was different than mine, while growing both as a performer and as a human being. I learned more about the characters I played and more about me, as an individual. I became more rigorous and thorough in my studies, because of the challenging and demanding nature of the program. This was very helpful for me because it enabled me to push myself and see what my skills and weaknesses were.

How will you keep your study abroad experience alive back in the US and Fordham?
Program Testimonials
I will definitely be referring back to my numerous notebooks when it comes time to audition for shows in the fall, doing scene study, and critiquing the work that I will be seeing around New York. Additionally, I have kept in contact with my fellow classmates, which will also help with the continued use of the things I learned while abroad.

Now that I am more confident with myself as an actor and as a person, I will not shy away from opportunities. I no longer will critique myself negatively and instead use the skills that I gained to become mentally and physically at ease. I will continue to audition and write and see where my talents take me both at my college and out in the "real" world.

What suggestions or advice would you give to a prospective study abroad student?
Program Testimonials
I would tell the prospective student to go ahead and apply. My biggest concern while I was abroad was finances, so I would encourage them to apply earlier in order to give their parents more time and less stress in being able provide financially for the everyday expenses. I would also plan weekend trips ahead of time, and try to see shows outside of the ones already scheduled for the program.
— Amber Avant, Spring 2014
What suggestions or advice would you give to a prospective study abroad student?
Program Testimonials
I would tell them that  going to LDA is a learning experience. It is not about showing off what a great actor you are or feeling that you already have to be the best. It's about gaining skills that will make you a more well-rounded actor with people who are there to make you a better person. I would tell a prospective student that LDA is not an audition, but truly is a classroom setting where everything is trial and error. It is important to take pride in that, because very few places will allow you to mess up and learn and grow.
— Amanda Fein, Spring 2014

Program Testimonials
Push yourself outside of your comfort zone. At first it may be odd and scary to study away from home, but the people you are studying with are there to support you. You are all there to challenge each other to help you work harder. But first make sure the LDA is the kind of program you want. It is a time-consuming theatre conservatory program. And every bit the most amazing 14 weeks I have ever had.

Program Testimonials
If unsure of your level of talent; commitment; passion; and/or drive as an actor or actress, do this program! It will help you understand where you are a performer and whether or not this is what you are meant to do in your life. An investment in yourself, for sure!
— Lorenzo Condemi, Fall 2017
What suggestions or advice would you give to a prospective study abroad student?
Program Testimonials
The advice I would give would be to just relish every moment of the experience. A semester seems like a long time but it really goes by so much faster than you can ever imagine. Some of the little issues or problems you may run into that seem like a big deal at the time are not that major at all. So I would say the best thing you can do is just relax a little and just live in the experience at every opportunity before it is over.

Program Testimonials
I was on the fence about going abroad for a lot of reasons. Looking back, I'm so glad I ended up going. People told me I could always travel when I was older which, although true, can never make up for the experience of being in a formal, structured program with kids your age. It's the people that make the experience worthwhile, so although you can travel at any point in your life I would highly encourage you to go abroad...you form a little family with your classmates. I later learned that many other close friends in my program were also considering not going, yet we all had amazing, memorable experiences. I had the best semester of college, so if you're on the fence about going abroad I would highly encourage you to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. Chances are many other kids in the program are in the same boat as you.
